Faith- she definitely is a happy old girl

Faith- she definitely is a happy old girl

These past few weekends some of our crias graduated halter-training school. They have been on a few trips up the barn road and back with no incidents, except for the occasional cat chase. This past weekend though, when my 4 year old nephew was over he found a friend in one of our friendliest cria of the year, Tempest, who he has nickname fluffy. Tempest has been more then willing to be led around by him, eat pellets, and give kisses. Radar had a little bit of hay on his back (he really loves to roll in the hay), and was nicknamed "stinky", Poor guy. In the end Tempest and her new friend walked back to the barn together, where he was introduced to all the other crias, and some of the moms. All of the weanlings were very interested in him, all of the yearlings and moms were waiting and watching by the gate too. Faith, who is one of our biggest girls was really taken with him and when we pointed her out inside of the pen, instead of exclaiming how big she was, he told us all she had a really happy face and looked like she was smiling, so sweet and im sure that won't be the last time he visits with the alpacas.

We have also dropped of our males over at Hubbert Farms for the Winter, they seem very happy there and have apparently not lifted their heads out of the hay feeders since they got there. Hubbert is boarding our males over the winter in trade for us taking all of their crias and halter training them. Because of the extra pen where the boys were staying we have moved our thin moms, who have just weaned their babies into their own pen, so they could get extra rations. We are really glad we got the move over before the snow hit, we have been very fortunate and the snow had held off until a couple days ago.
